PROPERTIES OF TEXTILE FIBRES

PROPERTIES OF TEXTILE FIBRES

Essential Properties of Textile Fibres:

Textile Fibre

  • Length:

Length of the fibre is important factor while manufacturing the yarn. Because there are small fibres of lengh 2 mm. These fibres are not suitable for manufacturing the yarns beause it does not have sufficient lenght and strength to manufacture fabric as compared to long fibre.

  • Strength:
Strength means simply capacity of fibre so that it can handle large breaking load and it breaks when it not handle more load than breaking load. As compact area between fibres increases, the friction between fibres increases hence it increases strength of fibre.

  • Cohesiveness:
Cohesiveness means the force of attraction between same subtance. Ex- suppose cohesiveness is between two hairs, human hair and sheep hair (wool). Human hairs are not cohesive means there is no force of attraction between human hairs hence it is not suitable for making the yarns. In case of wool, there is force of attraction between hairs and they have scales on hairs and they are attached. So, this fibres are more suitable to make yarn.

  • Flexibility:
Flexibility is important factor to make yarn. Because if the fibre is hard then it is not useful to make yarn also it is lack of comfirt properties. So the yarn is to be flexible for make good yarn. Banana fibre have good strength but it is not flexible so it is difficult to make yarn from banana fibre.

Desirable Properties of Textile Fibre:

  • Fineness:

Fineness is very important for the yarn property. Finess decides the count of the yarn. Finer the fibre higher strength of the yarn because fibres in crossection in yarn are more.

  • Resilience:
Resilence means the property of the fibre to attempt the original size and shape after deforming the force from it. Means the elastic recovery of the yarn should be good .

  • Uniformity:
Fibre should be uniform to manufacture the yarn and then fabric. If there is thick and thin fibres are present it looses the quality of yarn and creats defect in yarn. And this uarns are not able to perform in weaving shed during high speed.

  • Porosity:
Porosity leads to absorption of liquid. Means yarn has not to be more compact. There should be air pockets in the yarn. And also its important by the ppint of view of dyeing.

  • Lustre:
Lustre is the property it requires as per our need. Means sometimes lustre requires and sometime not. Lustre requires in party weaves not in the bulletproof jackets or in some industrial applications. Lustre is property because of this property the fabric or yarn becomes attractive.

  • Durability:
Durability is property of textile fibre i.e How many years it can be as it is for use. Durability is one of its most desirable properties of fiber. Fabric has become very important to consumers in the last few years. For example, when buying sheets 75% of shoppers said durability was the most important factor in their purchase. Proof of its strength can be found the great number of uses it has.
